So my newest experiment has been with vegetarianism. I decided to go vegetarian about a month and a half ago, and have had my platelets stabilize in the fifties. Now whether this is from the new diet or just a coincidence, I have no idea. Has anyone else tried this out at all?
I was almost entirely vegetarian at the time of my diagnosis in 2005. Now, due to various digestive issues, I eat poultry and seafood a few times/week. Neither diet seems to affect my platelets in any way - except this - I was having pretty severe gut issues and clearing them up with diet seems to coincide with sustained normal platelet counts (and also Rituxan) - so hard to say the cause, but I think the gut inflammation was exacerbating my immune problems.
I've been vegetarian for umpteen years.. since I left home at 18 and I'm now 55 and unfortunately it didn't stop me from getting ITP nearly four years ago.
Good luck with the counts, maybe you are coming out of it and had an acute case.. here's hoping.
Hi I have been a vegetarian since 30 years and I don't drink and smoke but was still diagnosed with ITP.
