ITP Fact #1

Chronic ITP is perhaps the most common bleeding disorder. It affects both sexes and all ages and races. It is difficult to determine how many adults have ITP, so estimates vary. One study reports the prevalence (how many adults have ITP at any time) is approximately 9.5 cases per 100,000.1.  The estimated prevalence in the US is based on a limited payor source, which only includes symptomatic patients, which, for adults, neglects around half of the persons with ITP.  The number is probably closer to 120,000 persons.  That’s more than 10 times the number with Hemophilia.

What People are Saying about PDSA
